Understanding Mean Arterial Pressure
MAP = DBP + (SBP-DBP)/3 = (SBP+2*DBP)/3. Diastolic weighted more because heart spends ~2/3 of cycle in diastole.
MAP 65-100 mmHg ensures adequate organ perfusion. Below 60 mmHg, vital organs may not get sufficient blood.
Pulse pressure (SBP-DBP) normally 30-40 mmHg. Wide (>60) may indicate aortic regurgitation or arterial stiffness.

Frequently Asked Questions
MAP formula?
MAP = DBP + (SBP-DBP)/3. For 120/80: MAP = 80+40/3 = 93.3 mmHg.
Normal MAP?
70-100 mmHg. ICU target: minimum 65 mmHg for organ perfusion.
Why does diastolic count more?
Heart spends ~2/3 of cycle in diastole, so diastolic pressure contributes more to average.
Pulse pressure?
SBP-DBP. Normal 30-40. Wide (>60) suggests arteriosclerosis or aortic regurgitation.
