How It Works

Caulk seals gaps and joints around windows, doors, bathtubs, countertops, and other areas where two surfaces meet. Calculating the right amount prevents wasteful trips to the store and ensures you have enough for the complete job.

Standard caulk tubes are 10.1 fl oz (fits a caulk gun) and cover approximately 30-50 linear feet of a 1/4-inch bead. Squeeze tubes are typically 5.5 fl oz for smaller projects. The actual coverage depends on joint width and depth — wider and deeper joints use significantly more caulk.

For joints wider than 1/2 inch, use a backer rod to fill the void before caulking. This reduces caulk consumption, allows proper curing depth, and creates a better seal. The ideal caulk joint has a depth of half its width for optimal flexibility and adhesion.
