How the Working Days Calculator Works

This calculator counts the number of business days between any two dates, automatically excluding weekends and public holidays for your selected country. Working days, also known as business days, are the standard Monday-through-Friday workdays that most businesses and government offices operate on.

The calculator supports five countries with their major national holidays hardcoded for the current year. For the United States, it includes all ten federal holidays such as New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The United Kingdom includes eight bank holidays. India covers six major national holidays, Australia includes seven national holidays, and Canada has nine statutory holidays. Holidays that fall on weekends are not double-counted since those days are already excluded.

The results show a complete breakdown: total calendar days in the range, the number of weekend days (Saturdays and Sundays), the count of public holidays that fall on weekdays within your range, and the final working day count. Each public holiday that falls in your date range is listed by name and date for transparency. This tool is essential for project planning, payroll calculations, contract duration estimates, and setting realistic delivery timelines. When calculating notice periods or payment terms stated in business days, this calculator gives you the accurate count you need. Note that regional or state-level holidays are not included and may vary by location.
